The Popularity of the Meme

A meme,as defined by Wikipedia (yeah, Wikipedia FTW) is any recurring popular trend, catchphrase, etc. that builds up the basis of social media. Curiously enough, the word itself rhymes with gene, as it is supposed to describe a similar concept.

So basically, a meme is something everyone in the Internet is bound to know about. It appears on Facebook, MMORPGs, Twitter, YouTube, etc. and it kinda gets to the point of becoming a part of yourself. For the kids reading this, try and picture your favorite superhero/little princess, imagine something twice as awesome/pretty, and place yourself on his/her superboots/slippers. Now you know what I'm talking about.

A meme's origin can be just about anything, from a misquoted president to an insanely bad job at translation, as well as random crap and things that just spark the LOLs. One great example is the famous yet mysterious disembodied face known as Shoop Da Whoop, as well as his catchphrase:
IMAH FIRIN MAH LAZER!!!
These are the kind of things that are overused and overrated all over the worldwide web. Mess up a DragonBall character and you get an expressionless face that spits laser from its mouth.

Another hilarious meme is the WTF boom. Self-explanatory.

Probably the most commonly found memes are the viral videos, you know, the ones that you watch and are very hilarious, then you see the views and ITS OVER 9000!! (lol I was actually going to say 50 million but it somehow got there XD)

Examples of viral videos include meme-vs-meme, auto-tuned speeches, totally ridiculous home videos, an unnerving citric fruit, high-pitched guys, and reviews of all of the above. Just about any crappy video you post on YouTube can suddenly get tons of views once people fall for the crap.

Memes FTW!!!
