Well, this sucks. My Lit teacher (an angel, noticeable in her name ==>Helen<== quite soft in contrast to other Lit teachers that force you to read Beowulf with their murdering eyesight only and caring. Oh, she's also our homeroom teacher) left school for a reason I'm not supposed to know. Although this is not the first time some issue forces my FAVORITE teacher to leave the country (Last time it was my 5th grade teacher, Chris Haske, an artist that seemed interested in each of my classmates' individual abilities) I just can't quite get over it. [sniff] It's a rule that this world sometimes is unfair, but the unfairness helps us overcome difficulties so that the impossible becomes possible.
But enough about that. [wipes tears from face] I want to talk about something that diverted me from the gloomy day of October 29th. A little something called gaps between the Bible and Modern Science. More explicitly, I'm talking about the facts that say that the Bible stated many things about the universe centuries before modern science could even discover such things. Now, as a Christian (Protestant) I believe in God's Word, which btw has some pretty amazing stuff regarding the universe as we (or actually the people who wrote the Bible) know it.
One gap I like between God and Science is the fact that Earth floats in space. This theory can be found on Chapter 26, Verse 7 in the book of Job, where he states that "[God] hangeth the Earth upon nothing." However, the Greeks had Atlas to carry the world on his shoulders, Middle Eastern myths pictured two elephants carrying the world on their backs. Well, it was not until about 3600 years later, when space travel began its foundations, that astronauts saw that the Earth was, well... hanging upon nothing.
Another one that strikes me is the practically infinite number of celestial bodies in the universe. For years during the rise of the Greek civilization up to the Middle Ages, people have been mapping the stars, trying to keep record of all the stars in the universe. The thing is that God himself said to Abraham, in Genesis 15:5, "Look at the sky and count the stars - if you can count them, that is. That much descendants you shall have." He says that the stars in the sky cannot be counted, which means fat chance regarding the stars on the universe. Yet, the "scientific discovery" wasn't announced up until about 3000 years later, again with the advent of space travel. It was then that the human population that used horoscopes as a guide for their lives were drastically reduced.
Quite a nice way to pass the Halloween weekend. Until Miss Helen visited school today for her last goodbyes...
