Send 'The Recycle Bin' to the Recycle Bin?

I was cleaning out my PC's Desktop, deleting any unnecessary files and shortcuts, moving everything to My Documents, and then I stumble upon one object I realized I had to keep on the Desktop, the ONE thing that can never be deleted from anywhere:

THE RECYCLE BIN

Why? Well, it's as simple as this: imagine throwing the trashcan into the trashcan (do you get the picture?! WEIRD!!) I got so pissed off at this discovery that I begged my technical support team (AKA Dad) to fix it.

And guess what he found out?

To take off such an insignificant icon from the Desktop, one has to tweak the rules and bend the entire system. It's like having to strike out and add other amendments to the Constitution just to eliminate our garden shrubs.

...resulting in a Mel-Zelaya-style constitutional crisis...

Well, anyway, I still had to take the plastic container icon off, so I asked the technical support to simply take it off by any means necessary...

He probably came up with this...

  1. Ok, here is the trick for Windows XP:

    Open Regedit: Start - Run "regedit" [Enter]

    Find this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

    Select the following key in the left panel:

    {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    In case you want to restore it back, export the key to a file where you can find later:

    Right click - Export (select filename and location) [Enter]

    Then Right click - Delete

    Restart the computer. You are set, no more Recycle Bin on the Desktop.

    If you want to bring it back just find the saved Registry File and double click on it.
